Hi Everyone, It is time for the second annual Dragon Boat Race sponsored by Magnolia Circle. Magnolia Circle is a volunteer group whose sole purpose is to raise money for the Childrens Hospital of Kings Daughters (CHKD). All proceeds from the race go to CHKD and therefore all contributions are tax deductible.
The origin of dragon boat racing began in China 2300 years ago. The boats used in the races today are so old the wood is petrified...really!!!!!....OK so they are not quite that old but...they pretty much retain there original design. Each boat is made up of a steer person (provided by the host), a drummer and 20 rowers. The boat is 42ftlong with the rowers sitting in 10 rows of two. There is no skill required other than to be in somewhat good shape and have full use of your appendages. The crew composition must have a minimum of 8 females. All equipment is provided. The entry fee per boat is 1250.00. This equates to a donation of 60.00/person (tax deductible) for the 21 mogul participants.
The itinerary is as follows:
7:30 AM Teams assemble in Athlete Village 8:30 AM Team Captain Meeting 9:00 AM Racing begins: First round qualifying Heats - 350 meters 10:30AM National Anthem & Opening Ceremonies 11:30AM Semi Final Round Racing Begins 1:30 PM Championship Round Racing Begins 3:30 PM Championship Final 4:00 PM Awards & Medal Presentations; Closing Ceremony
I will collect all checks or cash donations of 60.00 (checks should be made out to Mogul Ski Club). If you would like to participate or have any questions please give me a holler. Although we did not participate in last years event those that did said it was a real hoot!!! Mark Mills
